The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT has handed over approximately 172 kilograms of seized Cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Marine Command.

The illicit consignment, contained in four bags, was intercepted on 24 November 2025 by the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, following credible intelligence. The seizure occurred around the Ijegun waterside axis after naval personnel stopped a van suspected to be conveying illegal substances. The recovered narcotics were formally handed over to the NDLEA on Monday, 1 December 2025.
Speaking during the handover, the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore P. P. Nimmyel, who was represented by the Executive Officer, Captain Idongesit Udoessien, stated that the operation was part of the Nigerian Navy’s sustained efforts to curb illicit activities within Nigeria’s maritime domain. He noted that under the leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, the Navy has intensified operations against drug trafficking and other forms of transnational crime along the nation’s coastal and inland waterways.

Captain Udoessien reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding lives and property, while commending the professionalism, vigilance, and intelligence-driven conduct of the personnel involved in the operation. He further urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to enhance public safety.
The seized cannabis was received on behalf of the NDLEA by the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Morrison Udo, for further investigation and prosecution in accordance with the law.
